Review criteria

Criteria for all submitted manuscripts

1. Is the manuscript appropriately and logically structured?
2. Are the different methods used adequately described?
3. Are the new data provided or available in open access (e.g., spreadsheets, online data repository)?
4. Are the references adequate?
5. Are graphics, tables, and photos informative in relation to the text and with proper figure captions?
6. Is the length of the manuscript appropriate or can some sections be usefully shortened without losing their value?
7. Is the language of acceptable standard for publication?

Additional criteria for data reports

1. Is the manuscript scientifically sound and relevant for publication?
2. Are the scientific results and conclusions adequately described and justified?
3. Do the acknowledgments include "This research used samples and data provided by the International Ocean Drilling Programme"?
